Formula 2 driver Richard Verschoor experienced a sporting disaster in Belgium, as the MP Motorsport driver lost the championship lead this weekend. He failed to score points both on Saturday and Sunday. The new leader in the title race is Irishman Alex Dunne.
Verschoor had a particularly tough time in the Ardennes when he was forced to withdraw early from the sprint race on Saturday following a collision and subsequent spin. With an eleventh place in the qualification, he faced a significant challenge to score points in the main race the following day. This proved impossible in the rain: the Dutchman finished nineteenth.
To add insult to injury, title rival Dunne won the race. He thereby gained 29 points and is now the new championship leader with 137 points. Verschoor follows with 122, one point more than third-placed Leonardo Fornaroli. There are still five race weekends to go in the Formula 2, starting next weekend in Hungary.
