Lando Norris secured pole position at Spa-Francorchamps. The British driver outpaced both his teammate Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc, earning him the first starting position for the main race. Despite a disappointing sprint qualification the day before, the McLaren driver wasn’t overly concerned about the qualifying round. However, he hopes that it won’t rain at Spa during the main race.
During his first fast lap in Q3, Norris clocked his best time of the weekend, outpacing his closest rivals Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc, and Max Verstappen. This performance allowed the Brit to make up for the sprint qualification a day earlier, when he was six-tenths behind his teammate. “Everyone was very worried after yesterday’s sprint qualification, but I knew I wasn’t far behind the top (sprint polesitter Piastri). I had a few minor issues, so I was confident that I could set the fastest lap again today.”
Norris also commented on his collaboration with teammate Oscar Piastri, and how they bring out the best in each other. “The car has been flying all weekend. Oscar has also been fantastic all weekend. We bring out the best in each other. We learn quickly from each other. It’s a good, but sometimes challenging, collaboration.”
Rain
There is a definite chance of rain during the main race at Spa. Does this matter much to the polesitter? “I’d prefer it to stay dry tomorrow,” the Brit laughed. “For the fans as well. It has rained at Spa every year for the past ten years. But it doesn’t matter to me whether it rains or not. I’m looking forward to the race tomorrow regardless.”
