No pole position, but ‘only’ P2 for Oscar Piastri: the McLaren driver was extremely disappointed after the qualification in Belgium. He admitted to making a mistake, which he believes allowed his teammate Lando Norris to secure the pole position.
Piastri was the fastest in the sprint qualification on Friday, beating Norris. However, the current leader in the World Championship standings couldn’t repeat this feat on Saturday. “That’s disappointing. I made a mistake and it cost me a lot of time. The car is fine, that’s not the issue. But the margins are so small, a single error can ruin you.”
He was visibly upset, he shared. “The fact that Lando and I as teammates are closely matched is good for the team. But it makes it harder to beat each other, the differences are minimal. It’s a shame I couldn’t deliver. I have to try to beat Lando in the race, I know what I have to do now.”
