Oscar Piastri maintained his leading position at the start of the sprint, but saw Max Verstappen overtake him in the opening corners of the shortened race. Piastri immediately pursued, but fell just short of overtaking the current world champion. In the end, he had to settle for second place, and the Australian is now looking forward to the important qualifying session later in the day.
“I did my best not to give Max too much of a slipstream, but I just didn’t have enough speed on the straights,” the Australian reflects on the start of the sprint race. “It’s still a good result, important points. However, it’s just a sprint, the main race is tomorrow. Of course, I’m a bit frustrated that I couldn’t get past him (Verstappen).”
‘Don’t Want to Repeat the Sprint’
Like his teammate Norris, Piastri is also immediately looking forward to the main race on Sunday. “The weather doesn’t look so good for tomorrow, so we don’t want to adjust the wings too much,” continues the championship leader. “I also don’t want to repeat today’s sprint tomorrow. So, we have plenty to delve into.” And is Piastri looking forward to the important qualifying session later in the day? “Spa is my favorite track of the year, especially during qualifying. I’m looking forward to driving some more laps this afternoon.”
