Lando Norris will start the sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps from the second row, behind pole-sitter Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen. The Brit had to concede six-tenths to teammate Piastri in the sprint qualifying, and is disappointed that he wasn’t faster. However, Norris doesn’t seem too concerned about sprint races: ‘I’m not too worried about it.’
Lando Norris briefly held the pole position for the sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps. That was until first Max Verstappen and then teammate Oscar Piastri managed to beat the Brit’s time. His Australian title rival was even a full six-tenths faster. So, the first day in the Ardennes did not go flawlessly for the McLaren driver, but according to Norris, the weekend is still long.
‘It’s only Friday’
“I wasn’t going fast enough, that’s the only thing,” Norris calmly explains after the sprint qualifying in front of the cameras. “It wasn’t exactly a flawless round, but the gap to the top is still large. But yeah, I’m not too disappointed. This third place is for the sprint race, so it’s not something to worry too much about. Of course, there is some room for improvement.”
The Brit doesn’t seem to place too much value on sprint races. “It’s only Friday,” Norris continues. “I wasn’t very fast, and therefore not super happy of course. I would like to be faster than I was today. But for now, this is how it is. I have to do some extra work for Saturday, that’s all.”
