Max Verstappen‘s regular race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, is once again absent during a Grand Prix weekend. The British engineer will miss the race weekend at Spa-Francorchamps due to personal circumstances. Earlier this season, Lambiase was also absent during the Austrian GP. He is being replaced by Simon Rennie, the former race engineer of Daniel Ricciardo.

This is the second time in Max Verstappen’s Formula 1 career that he has to go through a race weekend without his regular engineer Gianpiero Lambiase. Prior to his previous absence during the Austrian GP, again due to personal circumstances, Lambiase had never missed a race. Simon Rennie, who also replaced the British engineer in Austria, will communicate with the four-time world champion during the sessions for the second time this weekend in Belgium.

Rennie previously worked with Mark Webber at Red Bull in his career before becoming Daniel Ricciardo’s regular race engineer. Gianpiero Lambiase has been the one guiding Max Verstappen from the pit wall since 2016. In addition to being the Dutchman’s regular engineer, the Brit is also the Head of Racing at Red Bull. It is still unknown whether Lambiase will be present during the Hungarian GP, the last race before the summer break.
