Kimi Antonelli has expressed interest in a potential collaboration with four-time world champion Max Verstappen. The Mercedes rookie hinted at this possibility in a recent interview.
When asked whether he would prefer Verstappen or George Russell as his teammate in 2026, Antonelli told Sky Sports, “I don’t mind. To be honest, they are both very good drivers. I am very happy with George. I feel that there is a really good dynamic in the team at the moment,” said the Italian.
Rumoured discussions between Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff and Verstappen’s entourage about a possible move from Red Bull to Mercedes have cast doubt over the team’s current line-up in recent weeks.
If the German brand were to secure Verstappen’s signature, either Antonelli or Russell would be sidelined. Both have contracts that are due to expire. Wolff has indicated that he wants clarity about next season either during or shortly after the summer break.
