Christian Horner is not leaving Red Bull empty-handed. The Brit was dismissed as team boss from the Austrian racing stable this week. However, Horner reportedly still has a contract until the end of 2030. With an estimated annual salary of between 9 and 12 million pounds, Horner can allegedly demand a settlement of more than 50 million pounds as compensation for his sudden dismissal.

Negotiations regarding the terms of Christian Horner’s departure from Red Bull are still ongoing, according to The Telegraph. Discussions about the severance pay for the 51-year-old Brit are also still underway. Red Bull officially dismissed Horner from his operational duties as team boss last Wednesday. However, the Brit will remain employed by the company. Horner reportedly still has a contract with Red Bull until 2030, which means he would still be employed by the Austrians for another five and a half years.

Fifty Million Pounds

In 2023, the British former team boss reportedly earned 8.9 million pounds per year. That’s roughly 10 million euros. However, that amount has since increased due to Max Verstappen‘s world title in 2024. If Horner indeed demands from Red Bull that the remainder of his contract be fully honored, then the total severance pay for the Austrian company, according to multiple sources, would amount to more than 50 million pounds (58 million euros).

While negotiations are still ongoing regarding the terms of Horner’s official departure from Red Bull, his successor Laurent Mekies has already completed his first day of work with the Austrians. The Frenchman was present at a planned filming day at Silverstone for Red Bull, where he notably praised his dismissed predecessor.
