Oscar Piastri had to settle for second place in the British Grand Prix. The Australian drove a flawless race at Silverstone, but was handed a hefty ten-second penalty for an incident during the safety car period. Max Verstappen had to brake hard because Piastri was said to have braked sharply behind the safety car. After the race, a visibly irritated Piastri was particularly terse.

“I don’t want to say too much about this, otherwise I’ll get into trouble,” Piastri snapped after the British GP. “I want to congratulate Nico (Hülkenberg, ed.); his third place is perhaps the highlight of the day.” Interviewer Jenson Button still asked the McLaren driver about the incident with Verstappen. “Apparently you’re not allowed to brake anymore behind the safety car,” Piastri sighed irritably.

“I did exactly the same thing for five laps, but then suddenly it wasn’t allowed anymore,” Piastri explained. “But as I said, I don’t want to waste too many words on it. Silverstone is still a great circuit, and I want to thank everyone for their support,” he concluded, before storming off to the cooldown room.
