As rumors circulate once again about Max Verstappen‘s future at Red Bull, questions arise about who could potentially succeed the Dutch world champion at the Austrian team. Verstappen has a contract with Red Bull until 2028, but reportedly, the racing team, represented by Helmut Marko, is already looking ahead. Formula 2 driver Arvid Lindblad could be that successor, although the British Swede doesn’t want to merely follow in Verstappen’s footsteps: ‘I want to be the first Arvid Lindblad.’
Red Bull talent Arvid Lindblad will make his Formula 1 debut during his home race in Great Britain. The young driver is still in Formula 2, but at the age of 17, he already has a super license thanks to an exception made by the FIA. As a result, Lindblad will drive Yuki Tsunoda‘s RB21 in the first free practice session at Silverstone. The British-Swedish driver will thus become Max Verstappen’s teammate for one session.
‘First Arvid Lindblad’
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko reportedly sees Lindblad as Verstappen’s successor. However, the young driver doesn’t see it that way. “Of course, it’s cool to be associated with a four-time world champion,” Lindblad tells The Times. “But on the other hand, I want to be the first Arvid Lindblad, not the next Max Verstappen.”
When the Formula 2 driver will become ‘the first Arvid Lindblad’ in Formula 1 is still unknown. According to the latest rumors, Verstappen is in talks with Mercedes for a seat with the Silver Arrows, even though he has a contract with current employer Red Bull until 2028. For now, Lindblad is still racing in the feeder series, where he is sixth in the championship. Dutchman Richard Verschoor currently leads the F2 championship.
