Lando Norris delivered a phenomenal lap in his McLaren during the qualifying round for the Austrian Grand Prix. The Brit will therefore start from pole position on the Red Bull Ring. Beside him will be Charles Leclerc, while Max Verstappen surprisingly has to start from the seventh position. This promises to be a thrilling race in Spielberg.
Norris’s speed was downright impressive. On a relatively short circuit like the Red Bull Ring, he left Leclerc more than half a second behind. Teammate Oscar Piastri will start just behind him in third position, sharing the second row with the other Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton is in P4 and will undoubtedly be eyeing a podium finish.
Behind them, an intriguing quartet forms: George Russell, Liam Lawson, Max Verstappen, and Gabriel Bortoleto. Verstappen’s seventh starting position is notable, especially since Lawson, in the car of Red Bull’s sister team, has beaten him. The young Brazilian Bortoleto is the surprise of the weekend. The rookie will start in eighth position, and his first F1 points seem within reach.
Among the stragglers, we see a few surprising names. Yuki Tsunoda (P18), Carlos Sainz (P19), and Nico Hülkenberg (P20) will have to pull out all the stops with a daring strategy and a bit of luck to still end up in the points.
The race in Austria will start at 13:00 UTC.
