Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has responded to the ongoing rumors about a potential move by Max Verstappen to Mercedes. While the world champion himself prefers to ignore the rumors, George Russell confirmed that his racing team is indeed in talks with Verstappen. However, according to Horner, it’s all just ‘noise’, and the Dutchman has a contract with Red Bull until 2028.
Rumors of Max Verstappen’s Potential Move to Mercedes
A persistent rumor has been circulating in the paddock for some time: Max Verstappen is considering a potential move to Mercedes. The rumor does not seem to be entirely unfounded, as George Russell confirmed this week that his racing team is indeed in talks with the four-time world champion. However, according to Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, it’s utter nonsense that the Dutch driver will soon be swapping his seat with the Austrians for one with the Silver Arrows.
“It’s just a lot of noise,” Horner tells Sky Sports F1. “I think Max is also quite annoyed by it. For us, it’s very clear that the contract we have with Max runs until 2028. Everything that is being said is therefore purely speculative. We tend not to pay too much attention to it.”
Frustration for Russell
Meanwhile, Russell’s contract with Mercedes expires this year. Despite the British driver winning the first victory of the season for the German racing team at the GP Canada, Russell still has no clarity about a possible contract extension. Horner also briefly mentions the situation the Brit finds himself in.
“I can imagine that George is frustrated that he hasn’t received a contract yet. But that’s something between him and his team,” Horner continues. “The situation with Max, we clearly know where we stand and Max knows that too. Everything is subject to change and of course, every contract remains confidential between the parties.”
