After a brief detour to Canada, Formula 1 is returning to Europe this week. Max Verstappen and his colleagues are heading to Austria, where Red Bull’s home race in Spielberg is scheduled. In recent years, the sun has always shone during the Austrian race weekend, and this edition is likely to remain dry as well. However, there is a slight chance of rain throughout the weekend.
It’s been a while since Formula 1 had a rain race. Only during the opening round in Melbourne did the weather gods truly play a significant role, with rainfall causing considerable chaos. The chance of a repeat in Spielberg is currently small, with ‘probably dry conditions’ expected for the upcoming Grand Prix weekend.
Weather Forecast for the Austrian Grand Prix
On Friday, when the first free practice sessions are held, a few drops of rain are likely to fall. In the morning, cloud cover will alternate with sunny periods, while in the afternoon, more and more clouds will appear in the sky. Temperatures will range between 15 and 27 degrees Celsius. A day later on Saturday, when the qualification is scheduled for the afternoon, there is also a slight chance of rain in the morning. However, it is expected to clear up quickly, and the qualification itself will likely take place under dry conditions. The temperature will be around 29 degrees Celsius.
It also seems that the wait for a rain race is not over yet. For Sunday in Austria, ‘probably dry conditions’ are forecasted, although it will be cloudy. However, the temperature will remain around 31 degrees Celsius, so fans in attendance should bring sunglasses rather than an umbrella. The chance of precipitation is less than 20 percent.
