On Sunday at Road America, IndyCar driver Alex Palou claimed victory, but Rinus van Kalmthout also made an impression: after a stunning comeback, he finished tenth. ‘VeeKay’ had started from 22nd place.
This season, Palou, from Chip Ganassi Racing, has proven to be an unstoppable force in almost every race. This was no different at the Road America circuit on Sunday, where he secured his sixth victory in nine IndyCar races this season.
The two-time champion dominated under sunny conditions. Felix Rosenqvist from Meyer Shank Racing finished second, just over two seconds behind, followed by Santino Ferrucci from AJ Foyt.
Further down the field, in addition to Palou, Van Kalmthout also made an impression. The Dutchman skillfully navigated his way forward in the Dale Coyne Racing car during the race. He started in 22nd place but managed to move up an impressive twelve spots, rewarding himself for a remarkable comeback.
In the title race, Palou is comfortably in the lead, ahead of Pato O’Ward, who failed to score any points on Sunday. After Sunday’s race, Van Kalmthout is in fourteenth place.
