George Russell emerged as the grand victor of the Canadian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver managed to outpace rival Max Verstappen, securing his first victory of 2025. His W15 performed exceptionally well on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, allowing him to make amends for his lost race last year, where he lost the lead from pole position to – indeed – Max Verstappen.
“It’s fantastic to finish first again,” an elated George Russell responded. “The last time was, of course, Las Vegas, last year. Last year here in Canada, we squandered a win, but today we took our revenge. Moreover, it’s wonderful to see Kimi Antonelli on the podium.” His 18-year-old teammate capitalized on the skirmish between the McLarens and managed to hold onto his third place.
So, what’s the deal with Mercedes’ speed? Are they back in the forefront? “It’s naturally a bit cooler here, as we saw last year,” Russell explained. “Our car simply thrives in lower temperatures. Time will tell what else we can achieve. Last year, we also won in Austria,” he hinted at the upcoming Grand Prix. “Perhaps that’s a good omen? We certainly had high expectations this weekend. We’ll see.”
