Pierre Gasly will not start the Canadian Grand Prix from his original starting position, but from the pit lane. The Alpine driver was supposed to start from P19 after a challenging qualifying session, but Alpine made ‘significant changes’ to his car after the session. As a result, the FIA is forced to start Gasly from the pit lane. His former teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, benefits; he moves up one spot on the grid.
Gasly had a difficult qualifying session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The Frenchman finished twentieth and last, after struggling with grip issues during his final run. Since the cars are under parc fermé rules from the start of qualifying, only minimal adjustments are allowed without penalties. However, Alpine decided to make larger changes to the setup of Gasly’s A525, in an attempt to improve performance. This, however, means that the Frenchman is required to start the race from the pit lane.
