The second race of the Formula E weekend in Shanghai has been run. Rain poured down over the Shanghai International Circuit, but it didn’t stop New Zealander Nick Cassidy from claiming victory. Among the Dutch drivers, Robin Frijns crossed the finish line in eighth place, while Nyck de Vries finished twelfth, out of the points.

Two races were scheduled during the Formula E weekend in China, and the weather conditions during the sessions could not have been more different. While it was dry in Shanghai on Saturday, the electric racing class had to deal with heavy rainfall during the second race on Sunday. Therefore, the start of the race was brought forward by half an hour, and the drivers started the race behind the safety car.

After seven laps behind the safety car, the field was released, and polesitter Nick Cassidy immediately built a lead. For most other drivers, it was a slippery and sliding affair on the wet track. Nyck de Vries even went wide and lost several positions. He also had a brief encounter with championship leader Oliver Rowland and Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne. More than a twelfth place was not in it for the Frisian, after he had crossed the finish line in eighth place the day before and thus scored points.

Frijns in the Points

The second race of the E-Prix weekend went a bit better for Robin Frijns. The Dutchman started in twelfth place but fought his way back to an impressive eighth place. Earlier, Frijns had also scored points on Saturday by crossing the finish line in tenth place.
