Following a victory for Lando Norris in Monaco, McLaren heads to Spain with full confidence. Both McLaren drivers are eagerly looking forward to racing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. However, team boss Andrea Stella is somewhat more cautious, warning that the Spanish circuit may not suit the MCL39 as well.
After a drought of six races, Lando Norris stood on the top step of the podium again in Monaco. The British driver essentially won the race on Saturday, securing pole position after an exciting qualifying session. A day later, Norris drove to victory on the narrow streets of Monte Carlo with two mandatory pit stops. Therefore, the young McLaren driver is starting the next Grand Prix in Barcelona with a good feeling.
“Going into the next race weekend as the winner of the Monaco GP just feels amazing,” Norris also confirms in the preview. “The team and I have worked so hard over the past few months to improve, and we will continue to push and use the momentum we have built. It’s great to end this triple header with the Spanish GP. Barcelona is a fantastic city to race in. I feel good, and I’m ready for another strong weekend.”
His teammate, Oscar Piastri, who only managed to secure the third spot in Monte Carlo, is also looking forward to the race in Barcelona. The Australian has already won a race on the Spanish circuit during his Formula 3 days. “The circuit is a good combination of high-speed straights and technical sections,” analyzes the McLaren driver. “I’m very pleased with the strong consistency currently noticeable in my driving and I’m taking many positive points to Spain. The team is doing well and I’m heading there with a lot of confidence.”
Challenge
Team boss Andrea Stella is also heading to the Spanish Grand Prix with a lot of confidence, although he warns that it will pose a different challenge than the streets of Monte Carlo. “The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has many high-speed corners that do not suit the characteristics of the MCL39,” the Italian cautiously notes. “This also means that we expect a lot of attacks from the rest of the grid and battles at the front.”
