Chaos in Monaco! At the start of the Formula 2 race, multiple cars collided following a mistake by championship leader Alex Dunne. The Irish McLaren junior started from pole position, but immediately lost his spot to Victor Martins, who was also on the front row. In a desperate attempt to regain the lead, Dunne pushed him into the wall. This resulted in a pile-up of Formula 2 cars, with Richard Verschoor also falling victim.
The crash almost immediately led to the waving of the red flag. After all, the entire Sainte Devote turn was littered with debris. In the end, seven drivers would retire as a result of the incident. Alex Dunne and Victor Martins, of course, did not make it past the first turn, but Gabriele Minì, Ritomo Miyata, Pepe Martí, Max Esterson, and the Dutchman Richard Verschoor were also prematurely eliminated.
So, it’s another stroke of bad luck for Verschoor, who also had a disappointing weekend in Monaco last year. After securing pole position on Saturday, he dropped out of the race with engine problems. This year, he started from the fourth position.
