McLaren driver Lando Norris has stepped away from social media. “It’s just not something I enjoy,” he stated in the lead-up to the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. “I see social media more as a waste of time. It’s not necessary, and it’s my life. I can do what I want.” Over the past few years, Norris has become one of the most popular drivers in Formula 1, particularly among the newer, younger audience.
Lando Norris has a following of 9.9 million on Instagram alone. In recent months, he has been candid about his mental health struggles and critical of his own performances. This may have factored into his decision to avoid social media. “I haven’t been on social media for a few weeks,” he explained. “I don’t need it anymore, I don’t find it interesting. I just want to spend more time with friends, go golfing, train, and do things that are productive.”
The 25-year-old Brit won the opening race of the current season in Melbourne, but has since been outperformed by his teammate Oscar Piastri, who has already won four races. The Australian leads the championship with a sixteen-point advantage over Norris. Max Verstappen follows in third place, trailing the leader by thirty-two points. The season appears to be shaping up into a title battle between the two McLaren drivers – fans are gearing up for the Papaya War.
