Carlos Sainz Sr. recently expressed his interest in the FIA presidency, ready to challenge Mohammed Ben Sulayem. Racing driver and analyst Jeroen Bleekemolen wholeheartedly supports this in the podcast Formula 1 Paddock Talk. “He is the best possible choice to take on this role,” he said.

“The FIA is of course much larger than Formula 1, and Sainz is familiar with all branches of the sport,” Bleekemolen explains his choice. “He comes from rally racing, is a true racer, and thinks in line with the sport. Lately, however, we’ve had a lot of political fuss, to put it simply.”

The current president of the FIA, Ben Sulayem, also comes from rally racing, but Bleekemolen does not consider him a true racer. “Carlos Sainz Sr. is, and if he were to take on that role, it would be fantastic. He is the best possible person in the world to fulfill this function. This man understands it and knows how the sport works.”
