Alexander Albon matched his best result of the season with a fifth-place finish at the Miami Grand Prix. In a flawlessly orchestrated race, the Williams driver managed to stay ahead of both Ferraris, as well as a Mercedes and Red Bull. The Thai racer was overjoyed after what he himself called the ‘best weekend’ of the season.
Williams had an excellent race weekend in Miami, with both cars scoring points. Carlos Sainz finished ninth, earning the Grove-based team two points, while Alexander Albon secured a commendable fifth place, bringing in a whopping ten points. This puts Williams in a strong position in the constructors’ championship and in the fight for ‘best of the rest’: with a total of seventeen points, the team is pulling further ahead of rival Haas, currently in fifth place.
Albon was ecstatic after matching his best result this season. “It was probably the best weekend we’ve had as a team. We overtook a Mercedes, left the Ferraris behind, and I even managed to get a Red Bull. It was truly a unique weekend. From the first lap of the first practice, the car felt good,” he told Canal+.
‘Just the Beginning’
Albon believes this result is the start of more successes. “This is just the beginning, I want to emphasize that. We will build on this,” Albon said determinedly. “I don’t think there will be any circuits later this season that will suit our car as well as this weekend, but we’ve seen that the car can perform well on multiple circuits.”
However, the Williams driver still sees room for improvement. “There are still areas to improve, but we can compete with the top teams in some races. We are clearly on the right track,” he concluded.
