The Red Bull team has lodged a protest against the results of the Miami Grand Prix. The Austrians will have the opportunity to present their case to the FIA stewards. Red Bull is convinced that George Russell drove too fast under a yellow flag. If Russell is found guilty, Max Verstappen – who finished fourth in Florida – may inherit his podium position.
If the FIA stewards rule that Russell indeed drove too fast under a yellow flag, he likely faces a five-second time penalty. This would be enough to promote Max Verstappen to third place. The leap to the podium would earn the Dutchman three extra points in the championship. Towards the end of the race, Verstappen was already informed by his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase that he needed to stay within five seconds of Russell. Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly are also being investigated for similar infractions.
