Max Verstappen has secured the 43rd pole position of his Formula 1 career. The Dutchman was six hundredths of a second faster than Lando Norris in second place and Andrea Kimi Antonelli in third. Verstappen clinches the pole position for the Miami Grand Prix in his first race weekend as a father.
Following the thrilling qualifying session, Verstappen was first congratulated on the birth of his daughter Lily by interviewer Martin Brundle. “It was a fantastic qualifying,” a cheerful Verstappen shares. “We were able to improve the car a bit, which made it rotate better. And honestly, I got better with each lap in the qualifying.”
Despite Verstappen appearing to fly during his final fast lap, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Dutchman. “I did have a small moment during my last fast lap in the first corner, so I did lose some time there. But in the end, everything came together. I’m very happy with the pole position.”
Rain
Just like during the sprint race, rain is also expected during the race on Sunday. However, Verstappen doesn’t seem too concerned about the weather forecast just yet. “We’ll see. I’m in the best starting position, so that’s always good.”
