Oscar Piastri is somewhat dissatisfied with his second-place finish in the Miami sprint race. According to the Australian, everything went well during the shortened race until the safety car threw a spanner in the works. Lando Norris re-entered the track just ahead of the Australian and behind the safety car, thus winning the sprint race. “But that’s racing,” Piastri sighs.
Piastri started the sprint race from second place, overtaking pole sitter Andrea Kimi Antonelli in the first corner. The Italian reported via the radio that the Australian had pushed him off the track, but the stewards decided not to investigate the incident further. Piastri then pulled away from his closest pursuers, teammate Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. However, Norris gradually closed the gap in the final stages, and Piastri lost the lead to his teammate due to an overcut and the timing of the safety car.
‘That’s Racing’
The Australian was not entirely satisfied with the result after the race. “Yes, I did everything right, so I’m a bit disappointed with the second place. But that’s racing. Hopefully, I’ll have more luck this afternoon and tomorrow. It wasn’t a good start, but I’m happy with what I’ve done.”
“We had a bit more pace left during the sprint qualification yesterday, hopefully, we can use that to grab pole this afternoon,” Piastri looks ahead to the qualification later on Saturday. “I’m enjoying it and we have a fast car. We need to be a bit faster, then we’ll have an easier race tomorrow.”
