Lando Norris’ disco ball helmet, his special helmet design for the Miami Grand Prix, is causing a stir on social media. The helmet, made from real disco ball tiles, could potentially blind other drivers in the sunny resort town. In a video on McLaren’s social media accounts, the Brit now clarifies whether he is allowed to wear the flashy design.

Entertainment is a high priority for the Americans in Florida, and Lando Norris is happily participating. The McLaren driver unveiled a flashy, dazzling disco ball helmet on the eve of the Miami Grand Prix. In 2023 and 2024, the Brit also traveled to the resort town with a special design: a helmet in the shape of a beach ball and a basketball, respectively.

The disco ball helmet is stirring up emotions: based on the reveal photo, fans on social media are openly questioning whether Norris is actually allowed to use the helmet or if it would not pass the FIA inspection. Photos and videos show that the disco ball reflects, which could potentially blind other drivers in the bright Miami sun. One user writes, clearly full of questions and enthusiasm: “Is that his helmet? How is that legal? That can’t be right? Can someone confirm this!?”

Non-raceable version

In a video on McLaren’s social media accounts, Norris provides clarity. He will wear a vinyl or sticker replica of the one-off designed helmet at the Miami International Autodrome this race weekend. The disco ball helmet, made from real disco ball tiles, is the ‘non-raceable version’, but it is the ‘cooler, more authentic’ one, adds the 25-year-old.

The new look is all about his first victory in Formula 1, which the now five-time Grand Prix winner achieved last year at the Miami Grand Prix.
