The GP Mexico will remain on the calendar until 2028, as announced by Formula 1 on Wednesday. Over the past few days, there have been many rumors about a possible contract extension for the Grand Prix, but now it’s official. The current contract with the organization behind the race in Mexico City has been extended by three years.

The Grand Prix of Mexico City, as the race is officially called, returned to the Formula 1 calendar in 2015. For Max Verstappen, the GP takes place on one of his most successful circuits, as the Dutchman has won there five times. Verstappen triumphed twice when it was still called the Grand Prix Mexico in 2018 and 2019, and three times under the name Grand Prix of Mexico City (in 2021, 2022, and 2023).

‘Unique Atmosphere in Mexico City’

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is pleased with the contract extension of the GP Mexico. “We are very pleased to announce that the Grand Prix of Mexico City will remain part of our calendar until 2028,” the Italian said in the press release. “Formula 1 is energy, passion, and emotion. Every year, the unique atmosphere created by our fans in Mexico City is one of the most incredible and energetic experiences of our championship.”
