Alexander Albon fears that Williams may not be able to maintain their success from the first five races throughout the entire season. The British racing team currently holds fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship with 25 points, but according to the British-Thai driver, this is partly due to competitors not yet bringing upgrades. “Now is the time for us to score points,” Albon admits.
Williams team is currently the ‘best of the rest’ in the Constructors’ Championship, holding fifth place. The British team, with 25 points, trails behind Carlos Sainz‘s former team Ferrari in fourth place, and ahead of teams like Haas and Aston Martin. Alexander Albon has managed to score points in four of the first five opening races this year, but fears this may not be achievable throughout the entire season.
“We have to stay realistic,” Albon said in Jeddah. “We don’t know what every other team is doing. Whether they prioritize this year or next year.” In 2026, the new regulations will come into effect, requiring all teams to build a completely different car. Williams also has to design a whole new car, but will remain a customer team of Mercedes.
Flying Start
Despite his concerns for the rest of the season, Albon is very proud of Williams’ results so far. “We’ve had a flying start, which has changed how well we want to perform this season and how much we might want to sacrifice next year. We want to take a big step forward. So now is the time for us to score points.”
Carlos Sainz, who is driving for Williams for the first time this year, has also been able to finish in the top ten in several races. However, Albon believes that his team’s success is partly due to competitors not yet bringing upgrades. “We’re taking advantage of that,” reveals the British Thai. “Because the field was close together during the first few races, if you have a good car in the first race, you can also use it well in the following races. That’s why it’s so important.”
