Red Bull has replaced and adjusted several components of Max Verstappen‘s RB21 ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, as confirmed by the FIA just before the start of the race. The Red Bull driver had already complained about his brakes after qualifying, and the team has therefore primarily focused on this component.
Max Verstappen was clear in his assessment of the RB21’s handling after qualifying in Bahrain. “We’re really struggling with the brakes, all weekend,” said the world champion. “In addition, I have very little grip.”
Red Bull took action on the first issue, replacing, among other things, the friction material of the front and rear brakes, the left brake caliper of Verstappen’s rear brake, and the right front brake sensor. Parameter changes were also immediately implemented for the new friction material. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko had previously announced that the team would discuss the world champion’s RB21 with the FIA.
All changes fall within Article 40.3 of the sporting regulations, meaning the Dutchman will not receive a grid penalty and can start the race from seventh place as usual.
