Antonio Pérez Garibay, father of former Formula 1 driver Sergio Pérez, is finding it hard to accept that his son is no longer participating in the premier class. Now that the second Red Bull seat is going to a new driver, Yuki Tsunoda, after Liam Lawson, he shares a striking conspiracy theory. According to him, Max Verstappen’s teammates would always have a different car.
Papa Pérez was recently a guest on the Spanish-language Formula de Dos podcast. There, he revealed his thoughts about the second drivers at Red Bull and claimed that the team builds two different cars. He even suggested that reigning champion Max Verstappen would struggle if he were put in the second car. “What I’m about to say will cause a lot of commotion,” he began his argument. “The car with number 1 (Verstappen) was never the same as the car with number 11 (Pérez).
‘Cars were never the same’
“If you had put Verstappen in Checo’s car, he would never have made it past the first qualifying session, let alone overtaken the other Red Bull,” he continued. “He would absolutely not do better. It’s about the cars – they were just never the same. I hope that’s different now and that Yuki (Tsunoda) in Japan simply gets the best car Red Bull can give him. Otherwise, it would be disappointing for the Japanese fans – he deserves to get the best resources.”
Sergio Pérez recently suggested that he is working on a return to Formula 1. Cadillac senior advisor Mario Andretti later confirmed that the newest team is interested in the 35-year-old Mexican. “He had opportunities to stay in Formula 1 this year,” his father explained. “But the level of those teams was not good enough for him. He deserves to fight at the front.”
