McLaren is heading into 2025 as the favourite for both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. The British racing team has been waiting for a win in the drivers’ championship since 2008, and it remains to be seen which of their two drivers, Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri, has the best chance. Damon Hill has an answer to that question and also offers Norris a tip for a potential second title fight against Max Verstappen.

McLaren has recent experience in clinching the constructors’ title at the end of last year, but the last time McLaren won a drivers’ title was with Lewis Hamilton at the wheel in 2008. Many experts expect that to change in 2025. However, it is still a question of which of the two drivers will come out on top: Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri?

Former driver Damon Hill has an answer to that question. “I think Lando can beat Oscar,” predicts the former world champion to the Daily Mail. “Oscar is brilliant, but Lando can give just that little bit extra when it’s needed. Oscar is a talent, but Lando is even stronger.”

Norris’ Mistake

In 2024, Norris attempted to enter the title fight with friend and rival Max Verstappen. However, in Las Vegas, the Dutchman proved to be too much for the Brit. Hill warns his compatriot not to make the same mistakes a year later. “I think he made the mistake of thinking that by going into battle with Max, he was going into battle with his friend. But actually, despite their friendship, he was taking on his worst enemy. When Max drives, he only thinks about Max,” says the former Formula 1 driver.
