Could we see Yuki Tsunoda in a Red Bull by 2025? The Japanese driver is reportedly appointed as the reserve driver for the Austrian team by Red Bull. Previously, the Racing Bulls driver had to watch as teammate Liam Lawson was promoted to the sister team.

Tsunoda, along with Lawson, was the most likely candidate to replace Sergio Pérez, who left in December. Unfortunately for the more experienced Japanese driver, Red Bull ultimately chose the New Zealander. However, it now appears that Tsunoda still has a small chance of getting behind the wheel of a Red Bull in 2025. Multiple sources report that Red Bull has appointed Tsunoda as a reserve driver.

The Japanese driver has been racing in Formula 1 since 2021 and is starting his fifth season in Red Bull’s sister team. In 2025, Tsunoda will be the teammate of debutant Isack Hadjar, but could also end up in the successor of the RB20, should Lawson or Max Verstappen unexpectedly not be able to participate in a race. Verstappen currently has eight penalty points, out of the allowed twelve, which means a suspension is looming for the Dutchman.

Iwasa

Should Tsunoda indeed have to step in at Red Bull, his compatriot and Red Bull junior Ayuma Iwasa may take the Japanese driver’s place in the Racing Bulls car. The 23-year-old is the reserve driver for the Red Bull sister team.
