Belgium has announced plans to feature the Spa-Francorchamps circuit on a two-euro commemorative coin. The Federal Public Service Finance of the country made this known, stating that the royal decree is aimed at acknowledging the sporting and historical significance of the car racing circuit.
The Spa-Francorchamps circuit is inextricably linked with Formula 1. The Belgian circuit, known as the Belgian Grand Prix, has been on the calendar since the inception of the premier class in 1950. It was announced in early January that the circuit in Wallonia will continue to be part of the Formula 1 calendar in the coming years, albeit on a rotating basis.
Commemorative Coin
Before then, the Belgian government, through a royal decree, will honor the historical and sporting significance of the Spa-Francorchamps car racing circuit with a two-euro commemorative piece. In addition to Spa-Francorchamps, the National Lottery will also be honored in the same way. Both euro coins will have the same technical specifications as regular two-euro coins.
The Spa-Francorchamps coin will feature a map representation of the race circuit, complete with the distance and the name of the circuit. The date when fans can get their hands on the coin of the iconic race circuit has not been announced. However, the decree took effect on the date of the announcement, January 16, 2025.
