The American team Cadillac will not have to wait much longer to find out if it can appear on the grid in 2026. At the end of November, Formula 1 announced that it had reached a preliminary agreement with Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors. An official decision on participation will be made ‘within a few weeks’.

The team had previously tried to enter Formula 1 under the name Andretti Global, but did not receive approval from Formula 1. The organization behind the premier class changed its stance after General Motors became more involved in the project, Michael Andretti left, and due to the threat of a federal investigation into the matter in the United States.

Final Phase

However, reaching the preliminary agreement was not a definitive green light for Cadillac, as the proposal still had to be assessed by the FIA. That evaluation process is now slowly coming to an end. “The FIA is currently reviewing Cadillac’s participation. We are in the final phase of the due diligence investigation and hope to complete the process soon,” a spokesperson told The Race. “We are working together and simultaneously with FOM to ensure the successful integration of an eleventh team into the championship.”

Has the FIA also set a concrete timeframe for the rest of Cadillac’s admission process? “We are in the final steps of this process and we expect to reach a decision within a few weeks,” said the FIA spokesperson.
