IndyCar driver Colton Herta has long been considered the most likely candidate from the American auto racing class to make the transition to F1. The American is currently linked to the upcoming eleventh team, Cadillac. However, Herta is tired of these rumors. “I just want to drive at the moment,” says the driver.

This is not the first time that Colton Herta has been linked to a Formula 1 team. The American was previously considered for a seat with Red Bull’s sister team, the then AlphaTauri. However, the team could not contract the driver at the time because Herta did not have a super license. The American can change this by finishing fourth or higher in the IndyCar championship in 2025.

Herta himself is not too concerned with an entry into Formula 1. “I didn’t even know what the calculation was to get a super license,” Herta honestly tells on the IndyCar media day. “If it happens, it happens, great. Then I have to make a decision if I am still wanted. If it doesn’t happen, then poor me. Then I’m stuck racing in IndyCars. Either way, I’ll manage.”

Herta Has Had Enough

The American driver will turn 25 in March, so if Herta were to make it into Formula 1, he would be older than the typical rookie. “I’m not really worried about it,” the IndyCar driver continues. “I feel like I’ve been dragged into this conversation for half a decade now. I’m a bit tired of it and I just want to drive at the moment. I want to focus on IndyCar and winning a championship.”

While Herta certainly doesn’t rule out a move to Formula 1, he also sees immediate drawbacks to traveling around the world for this motorsport. “All my friends and family are here in the US and I don’t know anyone where I would be going, so it’s a big decision. If I have to make that decision,” concludes the American.
