Without a steering wheel for the Indycar season, Romain Grosjean will take on a reserve driver role with the Prema team, which is making its grand debut in the Championship this season.
Romain Grosjean will not be on the Indycar grid in 2025. After a partial season with Dale Coyne, two with Andretti, and one with Juncos-Hollinger, the French driver has not found a steering wheel for 2025, as several drivers bringing generous financial means have claimed the last seats.
However, if the news is official, it is mainly because the former F1 driver (179 GP, 10 podiums) has just been announced as the reserve driver for Prema, which is making its grand debut in the North American Championship.
Reserve, he could be called upon to race certain races
The Italian team will start this year with Robert Schwartzmann and Calum Illot (whom Grosjean had succeeded at Juncos), equipped with a Chevrolet engine. Given the context of Indycar where the seats are less fixed and calls for replacements more frequent, the possibility of seeing Grosjean lined up at some point during the season is real.
Some teams can also add an additional car during certain races, and this is particularly the case for the two events in Indianapolis in May, the Grand Prix (on the road circuit) and the 500 miles (on the oval). The season will start on March 2nd in St Petersburg.
