In 2026, Cadillac will make its debut as the eleventh team on the grid, sparking increasing speculation about who will be behind the wheel for the American team. General Motors advisor Mario Andretti has already expressed his preference for an American driver. However, Italian veteran Vitantonio Liuzzi is also offering his services.

Vitantonio Liuzzi raced four times for Red Bull in 2005 before moving to sister team Toro Rosso a year later. The Italian left the premier class in 2011. Despite his absence from Formula 1 for nearly fourteen years, the 44-year-old driver is keen to make a comeback with the eleventh team, Cadillac.

“I’m open to it. I actually wanted to send my CV, if you can help me with Andretti!” Liuzzi tells the Inside Line F1 podcast. “I’m still ready. I’m like Nico Hülkenberg, who always jumped into teams and now he’s settled. I’m ready, the hunger is still there.”

Following in Hülkenberg’s footsteps?

Prior to his return to Haas in 2023, Nico Hülkenberg was also absent as a full-time driver in the premier class for three years, but always remained connected to Formula 1. The German made the switch to Sauber in 2025 at the age of 37. Therefore, it seems unlikely that Liuzzi could follow in Hülkenberg’s footsteps. IndyCar driver Colton Herta and the recently departed Sergio Pérez are seen as candidates to join Cadillac.
