“I don’t care anymore,” sighed Lewis Hamilton after the sprint race in Qatar. The British star gained one position at the start, but was far from satisfied with his sixth place. He is looking forward to the winter break and wants to put the remaining races with Mercedes behind him as quickly as possible. After a disappointing qualification, he had to reassure the press once again that he has not forgotten how to race.
The media in Qatar asked Hamilton about his last races for Mercedes. After all, in 2025 he will make the long-awaited switch to Ferrari. The question arises whether the Italians are now scratching their heads. Hamilton had a fluctuating season in 2024, with some highlights, but also many disappointing results. Nevertheless, the seven-time world champion is confident about his new adventure with the Scuderia.
‘I am slow’
“Yes, I can still do it,” Lewis Hamilton responded to questions from journalists in Qatar. During the qualification for the regular Grand Prix, he was beaten for the eighteenth time this season by teammate George Russell. The latter recorded the second time, but would later inherit pole position from Max Verstappen. Hamilton had to settle for the sixth starting spot. “The car just doesn’t go any faster,” he explained. “I know I still have it in me to win, I really don’t doubt that. But I am looking forward to the end.”
“I am slow,” sighed Hamilton. “I am half a second behind my teammate in the same car.” The media then asked if this only applied to the weekend in Qatar. “No, it’s been like that all year,” he replied tersely. Despite the fact that the former champion has won two Grands Prix this season, he is only in seventh place in the championship. The difference with Russell is twelve points.
