Max Verstappen will experience a bit more support than usual during the upcoming sprint weekend in Qatar. The Dutchman has invited his mother and sister to attend the race live. After securing his fourth Formula 1 world title in Las Vegas, Verstappen repeatedly expressed that he misses his family more and more and wants to cherish the moments together.
With only two races left on the calendar, Max Verstappen can breathe a sigh of relief – the world title is already in the bag. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the work continues unabated, especially during an extra busy sprint weekend. Fortunately, the Limburger will receive some extra support at the Lusail International Circuit; his mother Sophie Kumpen and sister Victoria Verstappen will also be present in Qatar.
‘Only see them about ten times a year’
“I’m very happy that they are here now,” the Red Bull driver told De Telegraaf. “I see my mother and sister maybe ten times a year. That’s not a lot. I also realize how important my family is to me and that I should continue to enjoy that,” Verstappen explained. “My parents are in their early fifties. Time flies, and I don’t want to think later that I didn’t spend enough time with them.”
Verstappen was also asked about the festivities in Las Vegas. Did the newly crowned world champion get to celebrate his fourth title extensively? “You don’t often experience a party with a four-time champion and the best DJ in the world,” he referred to his good friend Martin Garrix. “But it was a great party. We should be able to enjoy it a bit, of course. The clubs in Las Vegas close at some point, but it remained fun with Martijn (Martin Garrix) and some other people. It was a pleasant night. Or morning, actually,” he concluded with a wink.
