Sergio Pérez is gearing up for the Qatar Grand Prix. The Mexican driver could use a good race result after a long string of disappointing weekends. He knows what he needs to do at the Losail International Circuit: qualify well. Pérez scored only one point for his team Red Bull’s constructors’ battle during the race in Las Vegas, partly due to poor qualifying. However, he still saw a positive side to the weekend in the desert city.

The Grand Prix weekend in Las Vegas was yet another challenging one for Sergio Pérez. The Mexican was already out of the qualifying in Q1 and had to start the race from the sixteenth position. Red Bull chose, in Pérez’s own words, the wrong tire strategy, which put the driver on the ‘best tire’ at the ‘worst time’. The Mexican finished tenth, but still saw a positive side to his Las Vegas weekend.

“Las Vegas was positive because we had the speed in the race and it was good to see that we were more competitive throughout the entire race,” Pérez reflects in the preview of the Qatar Grand Prix. “During the last two races, we need to make sure the qualifying goes well and get the car consistently in the right position, so we can start on race days where we need to be.”

Focus on Qatar

Pérez is currently working hard with his team to prepare for the new challenge in Qatar. “It will be interesting to see how the car performs here on the surface, in completely different temperatures,” Pérez continues. “The Sprint format means that we lose time on the track, but I’ve been in the factory with my team this week to ensure that we are as well-prepared as possible to start on Friday.
