A visibly disappointed Lewis Hamilton briefly faced the media after the qualifying round in Las Vegas. The seven-time world champion, who had shown strong form in Friday’s practice sessions, disappointed during the qualifying round, finishing in tenth place. “Victory is clearly already out of reach,” Hamilton concluded.
The seven-time world champion started the weekend well in the gambling city, consistently finishing in first place during the first two free practice sessions. However, during the third free practice session, the Mercedes driver began to falter, not managing to clock a time higher than sixth. The qualifying round was a complete disaster for Hamilton. The Brit did not manage to climb higher than tenth place, while his teammate George Russell secured pole position.
“Things didn’t work when it mattered,” Lewis Hamilton succinctly summarized his disappointing fast laps in Q3 of the qualifying round, speaking to Formula1.com. “I should have been on pole, but at least I have the pace. That’s been good to see all weekend.”
Victory Out of Reach
The W15 has been strong all weekend, although it was Russell who clocked the fastest time during VT3 and the qualifying round. Does the good pace give Hamilton some confidence for the race, even after his disappointing qualifying round? “Not really,” the Brit admits honestly. “I think the race is already over for me. Victory is clearly already out of reach. George did well.
