The surprising podium finishes of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly at the São Paulo GP propelled Alpine to sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship. The French racing team scored more points in Brazil than in all previous races combined. If the team can keep competitor Haas behind them, the triumph in São Paulo could yield a substantial sum of money.
Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly both drove an exceptionally strong race in Brazil. Amidst all the drama on the rain-soaked track, the men from Alpine claimed a surprising double podium. Only a rampant Max Verstappen, who perhaps drove the best race of his career at Interlagos, managed to keep both Alpines behind him. Nevertheless, the French went home with thirty-three points, more than any other team and more than they had scored in all previous Grands Prix!
Who on Earth Bet on Alpine?
Alpine climbed a remarkable three places in the Constructors’ Championship, from ninth to sixth position. They overtook Williams, Visa RB, and Haas. If the team can maintain this position until the end of the year, they could rake in an additional thirty million euros in prize money, reports Reuters. A welcome bonus for the French, who had an unprecedentedly poor start to the season just a few months ago.
Drivers Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly hope that more people have benefited from their unexpected podium finishes. “There must be someone who bet that we would finish on the podium today,” Ocon joked in a social media video. “That person is now very rich, congratulations!” However, Pierre Gasly doubts whether anyone ‘would be that crazy’. “That would have been a truly bizarre bet,” he added with a laugh.
