In a race filled with drama and unexpected twists, Lando Norris lost valuable points to his title rival Max Verstappen today at the São Paulo Grand Prix. The race, characterized by changing weather conditions, ended in disappointment for the British driver who crossed the finish line in sixth place.

A critical moment in the race was the red flag situation, which Norris deemed unnecessary: “It shouldn’t have been flagged with a red flag, but that’s life sometimes. You take a gamble and it worked out for them (Red Bull). That’s not talent, it’s just luck.”

The red flag allowed other drivers to make a ‘free’ pit stop, which turned out to be disadvantageous for the McLaren driver. “That was unfortunate, nothing more than that,” he told Sky Sports F1. “George (Russell) probably deserved to win the race more than anyone else today. But sometimes you’re just unlucky and the rules turn against you.”

Costly Mistakes

Norris also admitted that he made some mistakes that cost him dearly: “It was a tough day, I made a few mistakes which cost me some positions, but I did my best. I’ve had a string of good races, it was about time something went wrong.”

With this result, the gap between Norris and Verstappen in the championship has grown to 62 points. The battle for the world title seems to be increasingly tilting in Verstappen’s favor.
