While we’re still awaiting an official announcement from Red Bull, many fans are already speculating that Daniel Ricciardo may have driven his last Grand Prix in Singapore. Rumors suggest he could be replaced by Liam Lawson in the upcoming race in Austin. An emotional Ricciardo, uncertain about his future, reflected on his life post-Formula 1 after the Marina Bay race.
Daniel Ricciardo was asked about his Formula 1 career after the Singapore Grand Prix. With tears in his eyes, the Australian recounted his experiences over the past fourteen seasons. “It’s exhausting,” he admitted, “But I’m not sure what the next step will be. If this is it and the team really moves on without me, I think I’ll give myself some time to figure out what that next step should be.”
Ricciardo expressed gratitude for the past fourteen years. Few drivers manage to sustain such a long career in the sport. “Getting into Formula 1 was always a dream, let alone being here for more than ten years and getting the chance to fight for victories. It’s been amazing, but maybe it’s time for something completely different. Maybe I’ll take up mountain climbing or something,” he joked.
Advice from Jackie Stewart
Daniel Ricciardo recalled receiving valuable advice from Jackie Stewart early in his career. The three-time world champion wanted to prepare him for the challenging times in Formula 1. “I remember when I really broke through in 2014,” Ricciardo shared. “Sir Jackie Stewart approached me in a hotel. He said, ‘If you ever want to talk, let me know, because it won’t always be as easy as it seems now.'”
“He was preparing me for the tougher times,” the 35-year-old driver continued. “I was on such a high peak then. Okay, I didn’t win the championship that year, but everything felt easy. That’s why I didn’t understand what he meant. ‘What are you talking about?’ I thought. Only later did I realize what he meant. Never get too euphoric, but don’t let yourself be easily discouraged either. Just keep riding the waves.”
