Another key figure from Red Bull, Will Courtenay, has decided to leave the team. Courtenay, the Head Strategist, will start his new role as the Sporting Director at rival McLaren from mid-2026. Courtenay has been a Red Bull strategist since its debut in 2005, working in Milton Keynes.
McLaren’s New Acquisition
McLaren has once again secured a new asset. The arrival of Will Courtenay is the latest step in the major restructuring led by Team Principal, Andrea Stella. “Will Courtenay’s experience, professionalism, and passion for motorsport make him the ideal candidate to lead our sporting department,” says Stella. “Our team is currently in a crucial phase. We are confident that he is a great addition as we continue to fight for victories and championships.”
Red Bull’s Response
Red Bull has not officially responded to the transfer of Will Courtenay. A spokesperson told the BBC that the team wishes him ‘much success with this future step’. “After a long and successful time with our team, which he has been involved with since the Jaguar days, we are sorry to see Will Courtenay leave. He remains part of the team and will fulfill his contract until mid-2026.”
