Max Verstappen describes the FIA’s handling of recent incidents, including those at the Singapore Grand Prix, as “tiring”. He’s not just referring to his own penalty for language use, but also to incidents like the fine Carlos Sainz received for crossing the track during a red flag. “What are we talking about?” he questions.
On Sunday, after the race, the Dutch driver addressed his remarkable Saturday press conference during a new media session. He also explained his dissatisfaction with the FIA. “I always willingly help the FIA. This year, for example, I helped young stewards. And then this happens,” he said, referring to the community service penalty he received for using the word ‘fucked’ during the Thursday press conference.
Verstappen’s Stance on Authenticity
Verstappen believes he should be able to be and remain himself. He has often insisted on this. “If that’s no longer possible, it’s better to say nothing. Nobody wants that. It turns you into a robot, which is not how it should be in this sport,” he stated.
Impact on Verstappen’s Passion for the Sport
The Dutch driver acknowledged that this situation also detracts from his love for the sport. However, he quickly shifted his focus to the near future: “First, a break for a week or two, then quickly focus on Austin.”
