Will we see Daniel Ricciardo at the United States Grand Prix? The Australian seems to hint that his last race in Formula 1 was in Singapore. The Visa RB driver emotionally reflects on his thirteen-year career in the sport, and it appears Ricciardo is already bidding farewell to Formula 1.
Ricciardo started the Singapore Grand Prix in sixteenth place, finishing the race two positions lower. The Australian’s future in Formula 1 was already uncertain before the Grand Prix weekend, but the disappointing results have not increased his chances of staying with Visa RB.
“I have to acknowledge why I came back after the McLaren period. I always said I didn’t want to come back just to be on the grid, I wanted to try to fight at the front again and return to Red Bull,” Ricciardo candidly tells the media after the race in Singapore. “It clearly didn’t happen, so I have to ask myself: ‘what more can I achieve and what else can I aim for?'”
No Fairy Tale Ending
Daniel Ricciardo seems to hint that the race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit might be the last race of his Formula 1 career. “I’ve put my best foot forward, let’s say the fairy tale ending didn’t come, but I also have to look back at what it has been. Thirteen years or so and I’m proud,” reflects the Australian.
The driver is therefore very pleased that he has been voted Driver of the Day by the fans in Singapore. “Usually, the driver of the day is not something we drivers look at too much, but today I can say it’s something I’m grateful for. Today’s means something.”
Even in front of the cameras of Viaplay, the cheerful Ricciardo seems to be saying goodbye to motorsport. “It’s not sad news,” Ricciardo says. “If this was it… I don’t want to make it a sad story, but it’s been good. There’s a chance you won’t see me (in Austin).
