Adrian Newey is set to join Aston Martin, with the deal expected to be announced on Tuesday, according to the BBC. The announcement is anticipated to be made during a press conference at the Silverstone circuit.
This news puts an end to months of speculation following the announcement of Newey’s departure from Red Bull Racing. The renowned British designer was subsequently linked to several teams. Ferrari was quick to set its sights on him, and a deal with the Italians seemed imminent. Williams also harbored hopes of collaboration for some time, and Alpine entered the fray as well.
According to the BBC, 65-year-old Newey will sign a five-year contract with Aston Martin, although the team has not confirmed this news. His salary, excluding bonuses, is reported to be 30 million British pounds (over 35 million euros) per year.
Team owner Lawrence Stroll’s desire to add the British designer to his team is no secret. Earlier this year, Aston Martin secured former Mercedes engine boss Andy Cowell. The team also poached technical director Enrico Cardile from Ferrari. All these moves are aimed at building the strongest possible framework for 2026 when the new F1 regulations come into effect and Honda comes on board as the official engine supplier.
