Max Verstappen has never been shy about his desire to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The prestigious endurance race is a tantalizing prospect, but the Dutchman must first complete his Formula 1 career. However, Verstappen is already dreaming of his ideal team; in an interview with simracer Jarno Opmeer, the Red Bull driver reveals who he would take to Le Mans.
Jarno Opmeer, who recently joined the Red Bull simracing team, posted an interview with Max Verstappen on his YouTube channel last Friday. Naturally, the conversation was primarily about simracing, a favorite pastime of both men. However, Opmeer was also curious about Verstappen’s Le Mans ambitions: “Which four drivers would you want on your team?” he asked.
Max Verstappen’s Ideal Team for Le Mans
“I would want Nyck de Vries on my team, no matter what,” the reigning world champion responded immediately. “He is fast, but also very light. At the moment, weight makes a big difference in Le Mans,” Verstappen explained. He also expressed his desire to give Fernando Alonso a chance. “Alonso and I are always joking that we should participate together,” Verstappen continued. “That would be really cool. That would already make us a team of three.”
Verstappen’s Desire to Race with His Father
Finally, the 26-year-old driver wants to take his father, Jos Verstappen, to Le Mans. “I keep telling my father that we should do it once,” Verstappen concluded. “He doesn’t really want to, but I would definitely add him as the fourth member. At least we know it would be a fun week!”
