Former world champion Mika Häkkinen believes that Max Verstappen’s dominance is definitively over. The Finnish driver, who knows what it takes to succeed in Formula 1, suggests that there’s currently too much turmoil within Red Bull. Häkkinen refers to this as a ‘turning point’ for Verstappen, who can no longer dominate the world championship.
Two-time world champion Mika Häkkinen, on behalf of Unibet, scrutinizes the current Formula 1 season. While Max Verstappen was initially the master of the track, his reign stagnated leading up to the summer break. According to Häkkinen, we are witnessing a ‘turning point’ for Verstappen, and it’s all due to the unrest within Red Bull. If peace is not quickly restored, his season is doomed to fail.
‘It Can’t Go Well for Much Longer’
“Verstappen has always been incredibly talented,” emphasizes Häkkinen. “You could see that in the training classes; he works incredibly hard and has a lot of discipline and willpower. But to perform, you need a team, and I think there has been a turning point for Verstappen in that regard.” According to the former McLaren driver, this is due to the unrest within Red Bull.
“He (Verstappen) is struggling with his discipline and commitment, simply because there is too much happening in the background,” Häkkinen explained. “Call it conflicts, call it political games. I don’t think it can continue to go well for much longer. A driver must always be able to stay focused on racing – as long as there is unrest within the team, Max’s performances are negatively affected. And now we also see that the development of the Red Bull is suffering as a result.”
